East London is a hub of creative types, making it well-suited to workshops and other such gatherings. Here are some of our favourite venues for just such an event, diverse in style yet equally practical and alluring in their own ways.
StollenSpace may, in some regards, be considered something of a blank canvas, but it’s a far cry from a simple, characterless white gallery. Exposed brick walls and raw concrete flooring are both perfectly in-keeping with the urban street art that is regularly exhibited here, and ideal for establishing a charismatic backdrop for many occasions. Benefitting from good natural overhead lighting and a capacity of 160, the building itself sits just a few minutes from the nearest tube stop.
Proud East is simultaneously a café, restaurant, cocktail bar, pool room and event space, so it’s easy to understand why it’s not short of appeal for all kinds of different gatherings. Found just off the popular Kingsland Road by the banks of the regent’s canal, it offers charming city views and an overall atmosphere that is both welcoming and relaxed. The capacity totals a generous 300, with Haggerston and Hoxton being the nearest transport options in the surrounding area.
Wallacespace Spitalfields boats a range of dynamic spaces that are ideal for stimulating creativity. There’s a space race theme throughout, from the vintage space posters adorning the walls to the blue, polycarbonate interior walls themselves, which let natural light flood into the spaces for a bright and airy feel. Modern and practical, the spaces can accommodate up to 200 people altogether, and with a ‘can-do’ attitude to the service, the sky’s the limit when it comes to throwing out ideas.
Shoreditch Platform is comprised of more than 1200 square feet of incredible converted loft space. Designed by award-winning architect, Alex Meitlis, almost the entire venue is covered with a stunning contemporary mural that is both eye-catching and an immediate talking point. This creative lounge space comes complete with a bar, kitchen, sound system, lighting, furniture and pretty much everything you could need for a corporate related production or presentation.
Hatch is a highly flexible, multi-purpose space that regularly plays host to antique furniture sales and various pop-up businesses, whilst also routinely operating as a café and bar. The unique design and excellent frontage, however, also allow it to host everything from product launches to away days, with a good total capacity of 120 in all to make use of. For those travelling via rail, Homerton Overground is the nearest station, found less than a minute away.
