Hottest Wedding Trends of 2017

What better way to brush off January blues than planning a wedding of your dreams! To help all brides-to-be get inspiration for their impending nuptials, Canvas spoke to Kavita Golia, a luxury wedding & event planner and the founder of Amaya, who told us what wedding trends to keep an eye out for in 2017.

Colours

When it comes to the most popular colour themes for weddings, metallics take the top spot in 2017. Instead of going for anything garish, choose more subdued shades. “Softer, brushed metallics on your invitations and escort cards are a nice way to bring this in,” Kavita advises. Alternatively, other trendy colours this year will be greenery, charcoal, blue greys and grey browns.

The Dress

The all-important dress! After the most recent London and New York bridal fashion shows, the biggest emerging trends have been plunging necklines, off the shoulder dresses, ruffled skirts and long sleeves. Brides are also opting for non-traditional colours for their dress with blush dresses making a few appearances on the catwalks.

Decorations

Statement centre pieces are a classic option, and can look very beautiful. However, in 2017, there is a clear trend towards rustic-inspired garlands. These can be made to look casual or more extravagant with beautiful flowers. Natural centrepieces are hot right now.

Wellness

People are becoming more mindful of their wellbeing, which includes being more conscious of the food we eat – and weddings are no exception. “It is a nice touch to use locally sourced food where possible,” Kavita says. Superfood cocktails are always a nice addition if you want to balance the alcohol with a bit of goodness!

Music

More and more couples are opting for live bands, which can bring a great atmosphere to a wedding reception. A mixture of a DJ and live band is a great way to keep your guests entertained. I am all for hiring a great venue where you can have more wedding time instead of moving people around. There are many ways in which you can turn rooms around, adding dessert stations or a mixologist.
