Intimate, quirky London wedding venues

London has lots of quirky venues that help to establish an intimate and charming atmosphere; one that lends itself perfectly to a wedding reception. Here are some of the best amongst them.

Hugo’s

Hugo's

Somewhat understated in its style and yet still charmingly quirky in its rustic finish and wooden furnishings, Hugo’s is a popular restaurant venue for private receptions. The layout of the space can be chosen depending on your wishes, with up to 80 able to attend a seated meal or 120 at a standing party complete with buffet foods for an atmosphere that will encourage your guests to mingle and chat. Just 5 minutes from Queen’s Park, getting there from throughout the city should come at no hassle, and you can also expect to receive a top quality level of personalised service, making you feel rightfully special on your big day.

The Dead Dolls House

The Dead Dolls House

The Dead Dolls House is as quirky as its playful name suggests. Housed within a 3 story Victorian townhouse, there are 3 private rooms on offer that serve as the perfect setting for an atmospheric and intimate candlelit dinner with your nearest and dearest. With quirky décor and an almost gothic feel courtesy of the clever use of black and white, there is also a decadence and a warmth added to by the characterful exposed brickwork. Well connected to the rest of the city, the nearest tube station – Highbury & Islington – can be reached in just 5 minutes on foot.

Ropewalk

Ropewalk

Ropewalk is a unique bar and private dining space found within LASSCO Ropewalk, the renowned architectural salvage warehouse. There are 3 distinct spaces on offer; the ornate and highly decorative Eisenhower Room, the Textiles Room or the intimate Barge Bar. These can either be used individually or hired altogether if you so prefer, adding up to a total capacity of 50, so things can still feel more low-key and personal than your standard wedding venue. The laid-back style of the décor helps to create a relaxed and informal feel, perfect if you wanted your reception to be fuss free.

Black Swan Studios

Black Swan Studios

Black Swan Studios is a warehouse venue, unique in that it certainly has its own character and yet is still minimal enough in finish to be something of a blank canvas, allowing you to put your own stamp on the interior so that it meets your specific requirements. Located in the popular area of Bermondsey, known for being a Bohemian and creative pocket of London, it is close to London Bridge train station as well as Borough and Tower Hill tube stops, making it easily reached by all your guests, whether they are travelling from inside the city or from further afield.

SNAP

SNAP

Specialising as a corporate event and wedding reception venue, SNAP has a professional and sophisticated feel. The vast, open space is bright and modern, with the abundance of windows flooding the interior with plenty of natural light. The use of pillars and exposed brickwork however brings a more intimate edge, creating a loft style vibe that is complimented by the distressed shabby chic touches. The total capacity allows for up to 200 guests to attend, with the nearest transport link being Old Street tube station, which sits just 6 minutes away.

West Reservoir

West Reservoir

Stoke Newington West Reservoir Centre is a 1930s structure that functions not only as a multi-purpose event space but as a water sports facility. Sitting right on the banks of a picturesque lake, you can enjoy open water swimming, sailing and kayaking, normally used for away days or training exercises – but who’s to say it wouldn’t make for the perfect alternative way to celebrate your big day? Even if the idea of water sports doesn’t grab you, the venue itself has enough merit as a reception space, with handy extras including onsite parking and a late licence that it is still well worth considering.
