Many people choose to go down the traditional route when it comes to wedding plans, but for many young, modern couples, the desire to find a venue that feels fresh and exciting is growing. Here are a selection of some of London’s trendiest venues to help satisfy these desires.
To kick things off with something truly unique, you could choose to celebrate your big day at POND Dalston, a cool restaurant and cocktail bar where you can experience the bold and brilliant flavours of Hawaiian cuisine in London. This multi-purpose converted warehouse, with its old-meets-new vibe, is so much more than just a restaurant however and has been used for many different types of gathering, no less so than for weddings with a tropical twist, without even needing to leave the East End. With a capacity not far off 500 people and handy nearby transport links, POND is an option that is both practical and fun.
The minimalist yet beautiful feel of the interior at Bistrotheque is perfectly suited to a modern wedding. It’s a very versatile space however and as such, the layout can be changed to fit your particular reception. If for example you want a more formal seated even, there is room for up to 96 guests, but alternatively you could opt for 100 theatre style, or 130 standing, if you would prefer to go down a more laid-back, snacks and cocktails route, where your guests are encouraged to mingle and interact in a much less official style. Regardless of how you choose to kit out the space, this beautiful venue benefits from having Bethnal Green tube station within close walking distance.
This Victorian building dates back to 1863, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s outdated as a great venue choice. Rather, The Roost has become an eclectic, shabby-chic pub split across four floors. Beautiful original features; quirky vintage furniture; bold statement wallpapers and grand fireplaces contrast with the splashes of modern design and eye-catching props and artwork to create a cosy, inviting ambience that’s great for a trendy wedding. Large windows, French doors and a pretty planted garden area mean there is sure to be plenty of natural light on offer while the basement level can be turned into a bespoke party space to carry on the celebration into the evening.
The Laundry is a great choice for those of you with a creative flair who want to put their own stamp on their wedding venue. This basement level event space is a very versatile, blank canvas with a raw, industrial feel, ideal for getting that edgy, modern vibe. The building is fully licenced and has an on-site bar, PA system and stage lighting, as well as drive-in access directly from the street. It can hold a very generous 720 people per event, while the transport links, including London Fields train station – just a few minutes away – and Bethnal Green tube station mean it is also well connected for those of your guests coming from further afield.
Swan Wharf is another brilliantly versatile venue, with one of its biggest pluses undoubtedly being its massive capacity of over 2800. Between the plentiful indoor and outdoor areas on offer at this Victorian warehouse complex, you can enjoy a total of more than 25,000 square feet of premium event space. Located right on the edge of the River Lea, you can also marvel at beautiful views of the Olympic Park. The 2nd floor features exposed brickwork and a lovely perspective of the waterfront, while the ground floor offers an in-house bar and bistro. The spacious outdoor terrace is another excellent addition should you be lucky enough to get a sunny day for your nuptials.
