A Sofar Sounds gig is a wonderful event for any music lover, and if you want to host one, the first step is finding the right venue.
With huge ceiling heights of 3 metres, a white-walled finish, south facing windows and skylights, The Umbrella Factory is a wonderful warehouse venue that is bright, airy and essentially a blank canvas begging for customisation. The space itself is 3000 square feet, feeling spacious and chilled. It is brilliantly situated in the East of London, close to Shoreditch, with a whole plethora of transport links in the area (including Bethnal Green Rail Station and Whitechapel tube station) making it easy to travel from far and wide across the city and beyond.
For something in the North of the city, Church Walk is a great option. The various studios on offer here can either be hired individually or as a complete package, depending on your needs. Complete with a shabby-chic, industrial style throughout including concrete floors, textured walls, exposed brickwork and metalwork, making it fantastic for those who want to bring a more informal, urban vibe to proceedings. The intimate capacity is perfect for a Sonar Sounds gig, while the nearby transport links include Dalston Kingsland and Canonbury overground stations.
Found in the very heart of the city, between London Bridge and Waterloo, Lumiere London is a fully-equiped studio space. This fantastic location means it benefits from several transport links, including Waterloo station and both Southwark and Borough tube stations. There are 2 rooms available, each 2000 square feet in size and complete in a minimalistic, modern style with high windows and a bright, airy ambience. There is already an in-house sound system which is sure to come in handy and the experienced team will be on hand to make sure things run as smoothly as possible.
There is 7,500 square feet of space available at Friendly Place, spread across 4 floors, including a generous rooftop terrace, several large studios and a conservatory. Originally built in the 1930s to function as a spice warehouse, it has retained its industrial charm while still being a fully-functioning modern venue. The large and attractive commercial kitchen and various small kitchenettes located on each floor make organising catering a breeze, while the private road and ample parking space make it easy for those travelling from further afield.
Tucked away under a railway arch on a quiet London street, Bermondsey Social Club is a wonderfully diverse event space that can hold up to 120 people. With spaces available both indoors and outdoors, there really is something for everyone here, no matter the mood or feel you hope to bring to your event. With a license lasting up till 1am, 7 days a week, you won’t be rushed for time, allowing the gig to unfold naturally. There are also good transport links in the vicinity, including South Quays and South Bermondsey overground stations, as well as Bermondsey station itself.
