Now that the festive season has come and gone for another year, many of us are already looking ahead to the summer, and as always, it’s best to get in ahead of the masses if you want to secure one of the city’s best venues for your own gathering. This means you should get your booking in fast if you want to snap up one of these great venues for a BBQ, all of which offer intimate yet functional outdoor space.
Found in East London, close to the bustling and ever-popular Brick Lane, The Canvas Café is a unique and creative venue, which comes fully licenced. There is basement space which comes with access to a fully-fitted kitchen, should you wish to take care of the catering yourself and require the additional room, but if it’s the outdoor space you’re especially interested in, then fear not, as the bright and airy ground floor bar leads out into the New York style garden. It has a capacity of 70, which is generous without losing the intimate vibe, and the surrounding area benefits from good transport links including Liverpool Street and Shoreditch High Street.
Craft Central is an amalgamation of several different spaces, making it a very adaptable venue. The largest individual area is The Gallery and it offers features including natural oak flooring, high quality lighting, a kitchenette and dual aspect windows. There are also spaces known as The Showcase and The Meeting Room, but perhaps most interestingly of all is the roof. Boasting 157 square metres of flat space, the roof is fantastic for outdoor events that cater to up to 30 people, offering wonderful views of many of the city’s most iconic sights, including St Paul’s, The Gherkin and The Shard.
Whilst on the subject of rooftop venues, it’s well worth mentioning Proof, an all-year-round rooftop bar that offers both indoor and outdoor covered areas as well as an open-air terrace. This is particularly useful given the temperamental nature of the British weather, meaning your BBQ can go ahead come rain or shine. The secretive feel of this venue, which sits nestled among the treetops with beautiful views of London Fields Park, brings a quirky edge, whilst the relaxed vibe brought on by the casual style means it can suit a whole host of different parties, be they for business purposes or purely for pleasure.
If you’re a lover of all things British then Bumpkin Chelsea would make a great choice of venue, as this Great British Brasserie serves the best in British cuisine, using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. There is a private dining room as well as a Secret Garden, with access to The Chelsea Gardener – described as an oasis within the city. Bumpkin is in fact one of the only venues in all of Chelsea that has outdoor space that can facilitate a BBQ, meaning it’s one not to be missed. As for getting there, Sloane Square tube station can be reached in just 15 minutes.
